Boater’s Licence (PCOC): Valid for life. It proves you have passed a boating safety course.
Pleasure Craft Licence (PCL): A 5-year, renewable registration for any boat with a motor of 10 hp or more, costing roughly $24.41to renew.
The Difference: The PCOC is personal identification to operate a boat; the PCL is the “license plate” for your boat, featuring a unique number (e.g., ON12345) that must be displayed on both sides of your vessel.
Important 2026 PCL Changes:
All PCLs, even those that formerly had no expiry date, now require renewal, with many older licenses having set deadlines for 2026, 2027, and beyond
